In the County League against Hatfield, Townsend very narrowly missed out on a points victory. One rink, that of Mike Doherty, Les Perkins, Roger Potter and Peter Thomson, won by four shots, while the other, four shots down going into the final end, narrowly failed to score that elusive shot that would have meant an overall win.
The midweek success story continues, with victories over Berkhamsted by 111 shots to 67, followed by a 80-70 win over Hemel. Top rink was Brian English, Mike Cowell and skip Chas Prior. The highlight, however, came in the match against Batchwood where the 2 -2 scoreline was overshadowed by a very unusual feat by Townsend's top rink of Richard Morgan, Alan Tucker and Prior, who recorded a "hotshot." This is a very rare occurrence where all nine bowls count, and Bowls England issue a commemorative certificate!
In the District League Townsend visited a very poor and unpredictable Hemel green. The visitors came away with a 83 -30 shots win, which translated into a 65 -15 points victory, with the top rink of Kevin Hull, Clyde Martindill, Mike Cowell and Bob Lawrie winning by 38-4, and Ian Forster, Mike Doherty, Les Perkins and Peter Thomson recording a 25-19 victory.
