Townsend Bowls Club were narrowly defeated by local rivals Clarence Park in the District League, by 79 shots to 69, despite the efforts of top rink, Richard Morgan, Kevin Hull, Clyde Martindill and Andy Scarborough.The next day Redbourn played on Townsend's grass, which was never going to be easy for them, and they succumbed by 92 to 48, losing on all four triples. Top rink for the hosts was Ian Forster, Brian English and John Oakey, with a most convincing 37 -8 win.

In the Top 10, Townsend journeyed up to Letchworth, to face Whitethorn. The visitors got off to the best possible start on a fast green when Alan Charran won his singles by 21-10. Although the pairs narrowly lost, the fours, of Bob Lawrie, Clyde Martindill, Roger Potter and Peter Armstrong defeated their opponents by 11 shots, and the triples of Ian Forster, Les Perkins and Andy Scarborough were one shot down when the overall result was conceded, with Townsend 18 shots in the lead.
