In the Top 10 Townsend defeated Herts by 3 rinks to 1, and by 26 shots, to progress to the Quarter Finals. Alan Charran got the hosts off to the best possible start when he prevailed in a very tight game, winning by 21 shots to 18 against an opponent who had led throughout. It took a 3 on the 26th end to decide the encounter.
No such problems for the pairs, Mike Doherty and Peter Thomson, who won by 33-14. The triples, Bob Lawrie, Gordon Williamson and Les Perkins, decided the overall result with their 21-15 success.
Charran and Thomson travelled to Potters Bar, along with Rena Williamson and Jane Dixon, to compete in the Stockman-Winser mixed fours. Their hosts conceded after 13 ends with the score 27-4.
In the District League encounter with Harpenden, Townsend won on 2 rinks, drew on the third and narrowly lost on the other. Top rink was that of Ernie Wright, Brian English, Gordon Williamson and Les Perkins, who won by 24-12. Alan Charran's rink recovered from 12-3 at the half way stage to share the points in a 17-17 draw. Although played in perpetual rain, the good humour and friendship of the match experience was enjoyed by all, and the result was a 78-60 win for the visitors, who also came away with 57.5 points, out of the 80 available.
In a weekend friendly Pavilion came to Townsend and lost by 3 rinks to 1, and by 82 shots to 52. The top rink comprised Mike Cowell, John Pearce and Bob Lawrie
