In the County Club League Townsend visited Harperbury and came away with full points. The rink of Bob Lawrie, Andy Scarborough, Roger Potter and Peter Armstrong finished strongly to win by the narrowest of margins - by 21-20. The other foursome, of Mike Doherty, Les Armstrong, Peter Thomson and Alan Charran started strongly and were always ahead, recording a 24 -14 victory.
A Townsend rink won the Clarence Park ladies' gala by the convincing margin of 16 shots. The four, of Annabel Alcock, Rena Williamson, Janet Metcalfe and Jane Dixon defeated teams from Linslade, Northaw and Cuffley, Kings Langley and Harperbury to gain a maximum 8 points, with a winning shot difference of 29.
Townsend's midweek bowlers had two matches in quick succession, the first being against Hatfield which they won by 2 rinks to 1, although the shot count of 46 to 68 favoured the hosts. The next match was the first leg of the Stuart Mather Trophy, an annual event in remembrance of the District and Club President, whereby Townsend take on Harperbury on a home and away basis. Townsend won on all five rinks, and by a convincing margin of 39 shots, which is carried forward to the return leg. Top rink was Bob Lawrie, Peter Waller and Neil Grimson with a 33-10 score.
